The date landmines
11–13 September is the busiest weekend New York has all year. 25th anniversary of 9/11 (Fri 11), Subway Series at Yankee Stadium (Fri 11–Sun 13), US Open women's final (Sat 12, 16:00) and men's final (Sun 13, 14:00) at Arthur Ashe, NFL Giants v Cowboys season opener (Sun 13, 20:20, MetLife). New York Fashion Week runs roughly 10–15 Sep, inflating Manhattan hotel rates on exactly the nights the 12–19 block still needs booking.
Orientation

Manhattan is a narrow island: almost everything on this list sits between Wall Street at its southern tip and Central Park two thirds of the way up, with Brooklyn a short subway ride east. Radio City Apartments is across the Hudson in Jersey City, so every day starts with a PATH train ride under the river into the World Trade Center or 33rd Street — 15 to 25 minutes, running around the clock, closer to a subway line than a commute. Get OMNY set up on a bank card or phone before day one and tap it directly at the turnstile. The single biggest rookie mistake: trying to walk the whole city. Take the subway for anything over ten blocks.
